Next morning I opened the app and it worked without asking for the ID again. Didn't work-it kept asking for my ID again. I then entered the license number, and it said to close the app and reopen, which I did. Two hours later I tried again, and this time the ID took and let me open the app. I went round and round trying to update the ID and nothing. Once installed, it refused to open unless I entered the correct Edius ID. Initial confusion was that you have to register your purchase first with GrassValley, then you register for an Edius ID (pain in the then you uninstall Edius 7, then install Edius 8. Okay, being the pioneer that I am, I purchased Edius 8 and upgraded from Edius 7 under Windows 10. Add some filters to this and I'm not sure how much help it will be. Of course, with a 2.7K 3D timeline, its almost the equivalent of having 2 layers of 4K. There is a great YT video from David Clark where he demonstrates the advantages of this timeline playback with 4K content. The timeline Quick Sync support in 8 is appealing and may help us a bit, but with a 3D timeline, particularly with 2.7K Gopro content, it won't be a panacea. I didn't bother with 7.5 as I heard of some people having problems with that one too. So, I figure I'll probably wait for 6 months or so before installing it as 7.42 is really working well for me. I regularly read the GV Edius Forum and there are certainly some people who are happy with 8 but there are definitely some pitfalls. There have also been many complaints about some idiosyncrasies in the UI which Grass Valley recognizes and has given priority to changing as fast as possible. With this driver, at the present time, Quick Sync rendering won't function although the timeline play part perhaps(?) will. For the most part, these things are pretty inconsequential for most users, but still!!Īlso, there is a known Quick Sync issue with Windows 10 as well as many Windows 7 and 8 computers that have automatically downloaded and installed Windows updates, one of which contained an updated Intel driver. Also, the Pro version actually deleted some features which are currently on Edius 7 and are now only offered in the Workgroup version. In short, I don't think it was exactly warmly received. I think one of the reasons for those introductory prices was due to the issues it was having as well as the fact that there was some indignation over the fact that it was offering very few upgrades over 7 with more promised in the future at unspecified times. I bought the more expensive Workgroup version in early July for $199. They were offering great deals on upgrades if you purchased it before July 31. It comes in 2 flavors, Pro, and Workgroup. I bought Edius 8 in early July but haven't installed it and don't intend to, at this point.
